Late this morning I received a text from some number claiming to be the New York Department of Motor Vehicles that read as follows.

Your Driver License will get blocked if you do not take an action on this notification
Just Update your contact information at:
I have intentionally left out the link provided since it’s obviously a scam. But I will say that it was one of those shortened URLs. Being curious I entered the shortened link into a site to reveal the actual website and I could very easily see somebody falling victim of this. Especially if they don’t know the actual domain name to the New York DMV or not even paying attention.
To be honest I couldn’t help being a bit amused by it because I don’t have a license. But if these imaginary goons want to block it then I welcome them to go right ahead and do it. Who knows maybe I have one and don’t even know about it. If I do I sure as heck hope it has a decent photo of me.
On a serious note these scams anger me because they are meant to take advange of the most vulnerable members of society. Senior citizens are a prime example. Unfortunately they have been victims of these operations far too often and it’s obvious to me those that run these operations have no heart. In fact I’d say that they are lower life forms than maggots.
With that said I have one request and that is to be alert for any text like this. I can’t help wondering if this is only going to increase as time goes on.
